I'm the screen, the blinding light
I'm the screen, I work at night.

I see today with a newsprint fray
My night is colored headache grey
Don't wake me with so much.
Daysleeper.

I cried the other night
I can't even say why
Fluorescent flat caffeine lights
Its furious balancing

It’s kinda funny how you can turn into someone whom one of your favorite songs been described. And you’ve been listening to that song before you became that person, or before you even could understand precisely each words in it. Like Daysleeper from R.E.M. I fell in love with this song when I was 14 or 15. Saw the video for the first time on MTV Asia hit list. And still in love ‘til now.

I remember I was so happy found its lyrics on one of teen magz. I search every word’s meaning. Until I get the whole message. At that time, it was never crossed in my mind that I’m going to be a daysleeper. Of course I don’t cry at night. But I definitely got that headache grey when facing deadline. Hehe.

But it’s not always because of the deadline, tho. Sometimes I’m the one who refuse sleeping and do things I could actually do at day. Like writing THIS at 4am, when I should and definitely COULD use it to get some sleep. As long as I can remember, I rarely have insomnia. I easily fall to dream land. Poof! Just like that. But now, the thought that I’m a productive-at-night-person is growing stronger and stronger. It’s not a healthy choice. I mean, physically. Our body designed to take rest at night, right? Even you think you’d rest all day, still your liver released all poisons at night. That’s why we should get some sleep.

Ah, well. At least I realized it’s not a good thing to become a daysleeper when you can have a normal rest at night.. The true problem is to really avoid it.. Shoot.. :p

I love fairy tale.
No, not because of typical plot of poor-weak-beautiful-princess-meet-gorgeous-brave-powerful-handsome-prince and then they got married and live happily ever after.  It’s more because it's full of fantasy and myth creatures. When I was a teenager, I regularly watched Hercules and Xena TV series. I also like White Snake Legend, Sun Go Kong, and Mahabarata. Maybe because when I was little, my grandma loved “pewayangan” so much and a big fan of Mahabarata TV series. She used to ask me to accompany her watching it. *Oh, I miss you.. How’s everything going “up” there? :)  * This kinda passion for myth stuff had helped me to achieve a nice grade in history study at school. It’s been so easy for me to enjoy and memorized the story about life in pre-historic era, the belief that spread among people about their god and goddess, along with its mythology.

Anyway, these are my favorite mythical creatures:

Unicorn
“The Unicorn is a lonely, solitary creature that symbolizes hope” – from Ally McBeal :)

Pegasus

 Phoenix

Fairy

In Pan’s Labyrinth, fairy can change their form into something different, depends on who sees them. So if you don’t believe that they exist, you can never see their true shape.

Hippogriff

Mokona Apapa

Ok, this one isn’t mythical creature, it’s from Manga titled Magic Knight Rayearth. But it’s sooo cuuuuutteeee.. ^^

I found this site about mythical creatures. It’s weird yet amusing. Hahaha.

So what’s your favorite mythical creatures?

What appears in your mind when you hear “public library in Jakarta?” Dusty? Boring? Well, yeah, it’s pretty hard to find a cozy-cool library with great collection of books. I mean in topic, not amount.

But this place, Freedom Public Library, is different. Located at Jalan Proklamasi No.41, Freedom library offers book lovers a place where they can find little morsels of happiness.

I love how everything arranged in this place. The plants, the chairs, the gazebo...

And...when i walked in to the main entrance..i just smiled and amazed. It’s so clean, cute, cozy, filled with books, lamps, woods.. Nice, nice decoration. There’s no reason not to fall in love with this place. I went straight to deposit counter to put my stuff and asked about membership. When you're depositing your stuff, instead of locker card, the librarian will give you a bag with number on it. Yes, it’s your locker number. For me, it’s a good idea. Visitors can use it to put their important stuff and books they want to read.

You can find books, newspaper, magazines, and journals about politics, religion, sociology, philosophy, economy, and literature. You can also use computers there to surf the internet. Bring your own notebook? Just use wifi. To get the membership, all you have to do is fill the form and show your ID to the officer. Voila! You’ll get membership card. No fee. No complicated procedure.

You can’t borrow the books and take them home. It’s even forbidden to take books out from the building. But you can copy it with very reasonable price.

Freedom Public library opens every day, except national holiday. Monday – Friday from 9 am – 9 pm. Saturday and Sunday from 10 am – 5pm.

I chose this as the first book to get copied :)

Billy the Kid was a real person? I didn’t know that before…

Friends and strangers

I may not an expert on religion or theology. You know, like, how to read what God really wants – God’s message behind every single event that occurred on earth. Or think that I’m one of the holy soldiers, so I should be proactive: preaching everyone to become more faithful to my religion, or convert other so they’ll have the same belief like I do. But as a human, I think it’s terribly wrong to attack and do horrible things to someone, just because they did not embrace the same belief. And it does very strange when people say the existence of different beliefs is a threat.

What threat if they just doing thing according to their beliefs, without coercion, and terror for others to convert to their beliefs? Is tolerance really that hard? And about them whom you think your enemy, you really think they should extinct? I don’t think so. If a different religion began to grow and develop, then there is a bunch of people who claim to be adherents of the majority faith attacked, because they think their religion can be destroyed by the development of other beliefs, I think it’s fuckin’ paranoid. And it’s fuckin’ pathetic. You...fuckin’ stupid bigot! Yeah, I use the f-word because you, irrational believer, use religion to justify all horrible things you do. Throw your humanity to do violence and told everyone its God’s will. Kill other people and say, “they’re not one of us. No big deal. It’s like killing animals.” WTF?! You make me sick!

You, paranoid creatures, for me, reflecting people who didn’t believe in your own religion! Attack others, simply because you assumed they’re the threat? What’s in your funny little brain? More important, where’s your heart? You’re your own threat! If you believe that your religion, your God, your faith, it’s a whole package of undeniable truth; the one that will save you in life after death and the judgment day, why bother? Do you really have met your God and The Almighty told you to ruin everything and everyone whose faith is different from you?

Could you...treat people just like you want them to treat you? That sounds much easier for me, rather than hunt and torturing them...  :(

Do you know what The Sticky Bun Book is?

The Sticky Bun Book is a small book. A super tiny one, which tells the story of an old baker whose grandfather, gave him a drink of a wonderful liquid he called “Rainbow Fizz”. It came from an island which the grandfather had been shipwrecked on as a young man. Because of its size, anyone who wants to read it must use “Magnifying Glass”.
Still never heard of it? Well, you can find it in one of my favorite books: The Solitaire Mystery by Jostein Gaarder :)

Why I used it as a name for this blog? It’s because The Sticky Bun Book was the main object in The Solitaire Mystery that lead Hans Thomas (main character), to discovered stories about his family and learned a lot about life, mostly its philosophical side. From nature of existence, theology, to destiny, et cetera et cetera. A small book that contains lots of great things. That’s why..

…..Yea,rite! Naaaah, I never hope or planned this blog to be that “cool” and meaningful. Haha. I just like the name. It sounds like a “fun notebook” or “cute diary” in my ear. And because the name “atomsforpeace” already taken. Same thing happened with “vespertine”, “alethiometer”, and “subtleknife”. Crap! :p

So, I decided to take it as my new blog name, simply because I don’t want anyone else use it. :D

But yeah, come to think about it, that “learned a lot about life” is a pretty good reason, eh? :)
