Page 138: The Acceptable Myth

/ Monday, April 16, 2012 /
Most of the times, I found it much easier to blame your birth sign when it comes to inexplicable feeling or demeanor you have towards some situation. I’ve heard it from some people I know, read it on their tweets or writings. I did it too, couple of times. “Capricorn is blablabla” and I said, “See, I’m a Capricorn, no wonder I did or act like that.”

Justification.
Defense mechanism.
You name it.

Maybe it’s true; your sign define some of your characteristic, the way you react with stimulation from others. The alternative of possibility between sign and personality dynamics is that those earmarks of signs that have been published for thousands years give impact unconsciously on a person through materials that they’ve heard or read. Media, especially those whose audience target are teenagers usually provide a column that “reports” predictions of what will happen in your life based on your sign. They called it “horoscope”. A printed oracle. It’s a natural thing for human to try to blend with community, so when they read about sign characteristic, they go with “oh, I’m a Libra, and they say that a Libra usually do this and that. Act like this and that. Etc,” and they try to fulfill the standard, the path, whether they‘re realizing it or not.

So let’s do some small unscientific research here.

They say Capricorn is:

Introvert . Tend to be Loner
>> Sometimes, too much gathering and party ‘suffocates’ me. When I need to be alone, I really can avoid anyone I know. That’s why sometimes I enjoy go to a place filled with unfamiliar faces. Or lock myself in my room all day long. I know I should do that less.

Prudent. Patient. Careful. Humorous, Tough. Stubborn/ Unyielding. Stable. Serious. Independent. Unemotional. Shrewd. Responsible. Cautious.
>> I take this as compliment.

Ambitious
>> I consider myself as a hard worker, not ambitious. Ambitious IMO is trying to consciously advancing your level in such competitive way; while hard worker type is more focus on do the best on their works.

“There is also a tendency to pessimism, melancholy and even unhappiness which many Capricorn are unable to keep to themselves, especially if they fail personally. In the extreme this trait can make them a very depressed individual; ecstatic happiness alternating with the most wretched kind of misery which is so subconsciously buried that he or she should seek help if such emotions become frequent. “
>> Man, are we really that disturbed?

"The swings in mood are not the only reason some Capricorns deserve the adjective based on their name - capricious. They can be surprisingly and suddenly witty and subtle for the quiet, reserved individuals they seem to be, and they also have a tendency to ruin things by unexpected and utterly irresponsible bouts of flippancy."
>> Sometimes, just sometimes

"They think profoundly and deeply, through exploring all possibilities before deciding on a 'safe' alternative. They have good memories and an insatiable yet methodical desire for knowledge. They are rational, logical and clearheaded, have good concentration, delight in debate in which they can show off their cleverness by luring their adversaries into traps and confounding them with logic."
>> I like this description. :D

Their occupations can include most professions that have to do with math or money and they are strongly attracted to music.
>> Music, yes. Math and money, hmmm… kinda bad with numbers.

It’s kind of funny when modern society still see it as “acceptable” myth while on the other hand, they also try to classify information from other fields (such as health or science); which one is fact, and which one is myth.

Maybe my mind had corrupted with materials I’ve read since I was a kid about Capricorn thing and shaped me the way I am now. Or maybe it's just a coincidence. Ah well.

haha. agree! it's very entertaining.
what makes horoscope sufficiently addictive thing for some people is because it makes them feel like they have some sort of access to "peek" at the future, to get a grip on certainty. tempting, yet silly. silly, because basically, horoscope serves only the general prediction. like, "you'll find problems on your office this week". well of course you'll have ones, everybody's facing it most of the times. that's why they called it "office", a place for "working". you'll meet problems and all that sh*tty things and some annoying people. whether it's a big one or a little one. because you are WORKING, for God's sake. :p
